 HAMILTON BEACH HERE WE COME!!! Jun 25, 2009
Let me start by saying I also got this blender from [...]. Worth every ticket! For the first test we blended a stuffed monkey, some jelly beans, cake flower, ping pong balls, a slice of bread, and a frozen chicken breast. THERE WERE ZERO CHUNKS!!!

 OH, so fragile! WARNING! Housing renders unit DANGEROUS! Nov 05, 2008
Well, this was a Christmas gift to my girlfriend last year. We do not really make a lot of things with blenders, and this was about our second or third use. I bought this blender from another store than Amazon, but felt it necessary to make a warning statement. Upon picking up the top from the base in order to pour a drink with crushed ice in it last week, the base of the unit (with the motor in it) dropped off onto the kitchen floor of linoleum. I did not know this top part did not lock onto the base, and was more or less moving it by using the top drink mixer part as a handle.
The fall from three feet up split the base of the unit in half, and it still ran normally sounding except that the base (the part under the top liquid carafe) of the unit had a crack running across it. Directly underneath is the electric motor, which is not shielded with ANY kind of liquid guard. If the unit was used again, and ANY water or liquid would have dripped into the base from the top unit, there would be some kind of electrical show as short circuiting and funny smells would be sure to come out of the shorted motor. (Yes, I took it apart and looked at this whole thing for myself.) OBVIOUSLY this blender was NEVER intended to survive ANY kind of drop or bang on the casing, and the poor housewife would assume the ensuing shorting and sparks and smells from the motor was her fault.
What a shame...the motor itself is heavy duty and looks to be able to last a long time, however, the MILK JUG kind of hard plastic material that the housing of the unit is made from will NOT support the three pound motor or any drop. Any jarring made to the housing will shatter the housing by the mere weight of the motor hanging from it.
I would strongly advise looking for a unit with either Kevlar or Stainless steel or metal for a housing...this cheesy housing is dangerous and will render an otherwise nice blender into a piece of junk. Worse yet, kids or women handling the unit may be traumatized by the ensuing dramatics from any kind of contact with liquid that drops or pours onto the top of the housing under the mixing carafe. I believe Hamilton Beach knew of this housing flaw...the cracking of the product is not covered under warranty, of course, and the shipping and handling for the unit under warranty for its return to Hamilton Beach is 11.95. And one more drop to the new blender would do it all over again.

got this from dave and busters for a whopping 4400 points. definitely works for a "cheapy". the wave power is cool, only rarely needed to chopstick, and only at the begining, when it was a little thick. have yet to get ice chunks in the final result.

I bought this when the previous "cheapie" Hamilton Beach broke down - and then I realized - it was over 30 years old!
Well designed, a big upgrade, works well, easy to clean.
The only prob - the rubber seal becomes fused to the carafe, and buddy - it ain't comin' off in one piece. I had older seals, and they fit fine.

Wave Action is Not a gimmic Apr 01, 2006
I was skeptical about the Wave action being just a gimmic but it is like a tornado in the blender compared to anything else I'v ever tried. I'm giving it 5 stars, not because it's perfect, but because for the money it is an unbelievable steal! I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond. Yes, this same exact model number was at $19.99 regular price and I used the $5 off coupon for any purchase of $15.00 or more so it was a $15 blender. I had just returned the brushed Nickle Oster (see my review if interested) since the motor burned up after a few weeks of use. This blender, out the door for $15 worked so much better than the $40 oster! No stirring was necessary to make the smoothy with ice.
Pro's: well priced, no stirring needed, jar can be put in dishwasher, pour spout doesn't drip like a lot of blenders and has a slatted filter option which was nice, small cap at the top can be grasped and removed very easily, 3 year warrenty, didn't slide around or vibrate too much on the counter, has a stand up collar attatched for sitting it on the counter, handeled ice and frozen berries if you follow the directions on how to do these.
Cons: Not "designer looking", plastic instead of glass jar, directions specify you have to add water, then ice, then drain water, for ice crushing. This was actually easy though. Just pour the water off by turning the lid to the filtered area and you are left with snow cone like ice/slush in your jar. The directions said use a collander but this was not at all necessary and could just be poured out the filtered side of the lid. The ice melted the first time I put a cup of cubes in but the second time, the water was much colder, just added another cup of ice and this time it worked. When adding frozen berries, there was enough liquid than they blended with no problem. Another con is that all the smaller parts can't go in the dishwasher, just the jar, the pannel isn't flat so harder clean-up, noise level is moderate.
Overall, a great invention! I'll keep you posted.
