Excellent Knives Nov 18, 2009 These knives have a lighter weight than my Anolon Santoku and the other Chicago Cutlery I have, but I like these knives. Most people feel that you get what you pay for; I do not necessarily agree with that idea because sometimes you get more than what you expected. My Anolon knife is my favorite; but I use these knives almost as often. The knife will hold the edge pretty well. I personally feel that if you take care of anything it will do the job it was made for unless it wasn't any good at all to begin with. The price was very reasonable.
Just a review for a point of reference...I've owned these knives since 1973 Oct 10, 2009 Do the math.....that's 36 YEARS. There's not many things made that last 36 years. I use these knives every day. They get sharpened occasionally, by me, and they are still going strong and hold a sharp edge. I use a wood cutting board, not plastic and not bamboo, which can dull an edge. So, if you're debating on whether you should buy a set of knives for $400 or these, go for these. You have my word that these knives are worth waaaaaaay more than what they cost. Even the Walnut on my knives is in excellent condition! I do hand wash them though. NEVER put wood in the dishwasher and feed your handles with some mineral oil on occasion and they will last a lifetime. For this price? Give them a go! You cannot go wrong.
Nice Knives Sep 09, 2009 This is a good, basic set of kitchen knives. The only thing I would change is the length of the paring knife. It is too short to cut an apple in half (or medium size tomato) with a single slice.
Great replacements for my old set! Price was good too! Aug 23, 2009 I had bent the chef's knife and looking to replace. For the price I paid at Amazon, I got two more knives instead of just one knife. Matched my old set pretty darn close.
Great knives for the money Jul 12, 2009 I got these knives for $10 from an outlet, they are amazing for the price. I have compared them to my roommates double-man Henckels and I have found that these knives:
- are easier to hone/sharpen, but don't hold an edge as long (I hone them before every use and it's fine)
- are lighter in weight
- are not as sturdy (the paring knife got a little bent)
- have a slightly higher tendency to rust if left in water (which you shouldn't do with either brand)
They are MUCH better than my friends single-man henkles. I have had them for 2 years now and have certainly gotten my $10 worth out of them. They probably won't last as long as the henckels, but I end up grabbing for these knives 85% of the time because I can get them much sharper.
