Every Homeowner Should Have One! Nov 16, 2009 This afternoon was the first time using the vac feature. It was more like playing with a new toy .. and made cleaning up leaves almost fun! It was very easy to convert from blower to vac. It mulched up the leaves very well. The bag was easy to detach and empty. The variable speed control is wonderful. I am very impressed with this tool and the price was excellent. Thank you Toro! P.S. I have your personal pace lawnmower too .. which I love!
Fantastic! Nov 15, 2009 I tried out two (quite expensive) gas blowers before giving up and getting this one. It's not even close -- this thing blows them away, quite literally. I was able to accomplish twice the cleanup with half the effort of the gas blowers. Do not hesitate to buy this thing -- you'll be relieved to have such a useful fall cleanup tool.

Good around landscape rock Nov 15, 2009 I mainly use the vacuum feature that works very well to pick up leaves. I especially like the fact that it does not pick up the landscape river rock that I use. The variable speed feature is also useful.

Fantastic value Nov 15, 2009 I was a skeptical of purchasing a electric blower thinking it wouldn't have enough power to do the job, in this case I was wrong. The toro leaf blower has more than enough power to get the job done, and it does so without the noisy motor of a gas powered leaf blower. The variable speed controller is excellent as you can decrease the strength to help wrangle the leafs into manageable piles, although the position of the variable controller could be better as it takes a second hand to adjust the speed a thumb control would have been nicer but it's not a big deal. The only down fall of this unit is the electrical cord you have to drag around, but for the price and how strong this blower is I can deal with it.

great leaf vac for hedges and flower beds in Conn. Nov 14, 2009 Can stongly recommend the Toro 51599 Ultra as vac, no blowing experience (have backpack). Thanks to all other reviewers I read, specially those critical of B&D's plastic impeller & Workx as vacs, before I bought this. I bought it at Home Depot, $70, only as a vac for a specific problem -- vacuuming leaves out of my hedge and flower beds which are like leaf sanctuaries, 3 inches or so deep with leaves. Works great. Even if leaves are wet, and it does mulch well even wet, despite other reviewers' complaints. I find very good reduction of volume. I am on heavily wooded lot in Conn. so good test. Saved me a lot of time, makes it more fun as others said. Hedges are back breakers as you know if you have them, especially double rows, and a pain to clean because even small rakes get tangled. You cannot blow the leaves out if you have parallel rows or square hedge beds like me, or even hedges against the house are a nuisance to clean. The Toro knocks this chore out fast and makes it way easier. Also like it for cleaning leaves out of the garage. Faster than blowing for quick garage cleanups that my wife always asks me to do.
Tips: When you hear engine whine stop and clean vacuum chute attachment, it clogs. Stop engine and just tap it on ground and stuff falls out. Found I am emptying the bag every ten minutes so getting hose kit to try that, despite mixed reviews on it. Also bag unwieldy with bushes all around you, catches thorns on roses etc. because it fills up with air so it is big. Works fine though and zipper makes it easy to clean out. And heavy as others said, especially if wet leaves. Home Depot does not stock hose accessory so buying at Amazon. Also recommend Echo gas-powered backpack blower PB-602 for the real heavy leaf work or grass clippings/cleanup. Had mine for 7 years, first servicing just this year $140 still runs great. I definitely would not want electric blower for big leafy yard like mine.
