Okay, but definitely not great Jan 14, 2009 Review for Black and Decker 2 slice toaster (black).
Toasters are so tricky! I don't want to spend a lot on one in case it's a dud, but I also don't want the cheapest one around. So, when we bought a new one last year, we settled on one that was in the middle of the road price range--this one.
This one is okay. Just okay, not great, and not bad. It does take longer to toast, but if you're willing to wait, it does a good job (sometimes it may take two rounds of toasting though). It automatically stops working if the toaster has gotten too hot. Also, the toaster won't allow you to push it down if the toaster isn't plugged in. That can be a blessing, because you aren't going to come back to a piece of toast that you've pushed down in the toaster, but isn't done because it wasn't plugged in.
I like it because it's dependable and it works! My husband frets because it takes too long. Hence, the 3 star rating.
So, all in all, it's a decent toaster if you're not in a rush.

Great toaster! May 14, 2008 I love this toaster. I'm so glad that I did not give in and buy a toaster at Wal-Mart. Easy to clean. Settings are consistent. I finally found a toaster that really works.

Very poor toaster Feb 20, 2008 I've used this toaster daily for a couple of weeks now, and the only thing it has going for it is looks and price. I read Amazon reviews for everything else, don't know why I didn't in this case.
The first problem is that it doesn't toast evenly. Some of the "coils" don't seem to get hot (red), so there are bands in your toast that aren't browned. It has to be turned up very high to get the whole piece, then the rest is so hard it's unpleasant. Plus, that makes the cooking time much longer. Secondly, when the toast is finally done, the bread doesn't come out far enough so that for even a regular sized slice of bread your fingers have to touch the hot toaster to get the piece out.
I absolutely do not recommend this toaster.
Hated it Oct 08, 2007 Had it for 3 years and never liked it. It never toasted even and one side always burned everything. It feels clunky, didn't pop toast up far enough, and the only way to cancel toasting (like if it was burning something) was to unplug it. Recently got a Hamilton Beach, costs $15 less than this toaster, and it works beautifully.

Don't buy it! Sep 12, 2007 I should have read the reviews BEFORE buying it, but I was in a hurry. This is probably the worst toaster I've ever had. It takes forever to toast and it doesn't pop up enough after it's finished. I always have to stick my fingers down inside the toaster to try and pull out a regular size piece of bread. Also, I have trouble with the staying down in the "toast" mode sometimes.
I'm trashing this and looking for a different brand.
