Helpful, but could use some improvement Dec 09, 2009 This gate kit will indeed help you create your gate. But the kits are not without problems. As others have noted, not every brace is square. I ended up ordering one more than I needed and returning one kit full of non-square parts. Also, the hinges barely get the job done - they are simply front door hinges. One person suggested cutting off the hinges with a hacksaw and using regular gate hinges.
Gate Brackets Sep 13, 2009 Service was fast and good, Brackets were everything that we thought they would be. Gates went together easily and looked good.
Excellent solution for simple gates Jun 30, 2009 I purchased one of these kits to add a small gate on my back deck. Rather than messing about with cross braces, this kit allowed me to assemble the gate in around 20 minutes. The only tricky part was screwing some of the wood screws into the wood, as the metal bars on the frame can make it tricky to use a power driver.
Overall, I'm very satisfied. I just wish they came in white as well as black ...
Easy Gate Jun 27, 2009 Goes together easily. 20 minutes like they advertise; I don't think so unless you have a chop saw. The finished product is VERY sturdy. A catch is not furnished so you'll have to go to Lowe's or Home Depot for a gate catch.
You'll need to following tools:
Saw (much faster with a chop saw)
Drill with 1/8" bit
Philips screwdriver
Level
Ruler
One of the angle brackets had been bent at the end but that was easy to straighten. The finished gate was 36x36 so I didn't put any strain on the brackets so I can't speak for wider gates. It's any easy afternoon project for the average handyman.
Oh, and by the way, Amazon had the best price I could find anywhere.
Excellent! Builds Strong, Square Gates that will Last. Apr 24, 2009 I have built several gates using these kits and they have all turned out to be extremely sturdy and square. The hardware is very stout and will give you a no-sag gate every time! I did have a couple of screws that had trouble going into Pressure treated fir... but that IS pretty tough stuff to drive into. The kits will save you time and wood... don't need a cross brace in these gates!
